Q1: What was the purpose of the sewing machine that the founders built together and released in 1928?
C: Straw hats
The Straw Hat Chain Stitch Sewing Machine was produced to help raise funds for the founding brothers' dream of developing a domestically manufactured household sewing machine in Japan. The sewing machine released in 1928, known as the "Sho-san-shiki" (Showa 3 Model) after its year of release, was the very first machine under the "BROTHER" brand–a name chosen to represent the brothers' cooperation.
In 2007, this machine was recognized as a "Mechanical Engineering Heritage" by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
